As one leader to another, let me give you some advice: good leadership is all about providing strong motivation. Here's an example: if you boys don't kill that deputy, I will kill you! See, you feel more motivated, right? |
” | —, Benedict threatening the Spud Buds in Pilot episode of Sunset Paradise. |
Sir Benedict Cumbersnatch, previously known as the Mysterious Voice in Episodes 1 and 3 credits due to his identity not being revealed yet, is the main antagonist of Sunset Paradise.
He was a powerful monster trapped in the form of a living anthropomorphic egg who serves as a crime lord controlling the criminal underworld of Port Aurora. He was the boss of Whisk, the Spud Buds, and the Funky Fource, and the archenemy of Auri Bori, due to him murdering Auri's grandfather Aloysius Bori, who transformed him into an egg in the first place.
Appearance[]
Benedict appears as a crudely drawn face projected through a monitor that swaps between predetermined expressions, giving him a similar appearance to Hal Monitor from the SMG4 series. His real form is an egg-like creature from a curse from Aloysius Bori. He is also seen wearing a red fez.
He relies on his Goonies that he's tied to and seems to have the ability to influence their actions. Episode 6 implies that it's because he rewards them with cookies whenever they please him.
His true form is that of a tall, dark humanoid with black eyeballs and red iris’, though still wearing his aforementioned fez.
Personality[]
While he may display a polite, reasonable and understanding side, Benedict is a malicious, vicious, cruel, rude, selfish, self-centered, and ruthless person. He's very ruthless to the point of not caring about who he or his subordinates hurts even children to further and/or accomplish his goals like his current objective to kill Auri, a kid who pretends to be a deputy sheriff and befriends Meggy, to prevent him from interfering with sabotaging the Phoenix Festival.
He abuses his underlings as seen in SUNSET PARADISE - EP 1: PILOT when he was scolding the Spud Buds for their failed attempt to kill Auri, he makes Duke punch Mash for exposing the secret of Auri getting away. He then chokes Yam telling him that if they don’t kill Auri, then he would kill them all. Benedict has a bit of a dark sense of humor, as when he congratulated Mash when he said they would kill Meggy along with Auri. He also hates people calling or assuming him an egg.
Despite seeming brave and intimidating, he is also incredibly cowardly, as when he mistakes Auri for Aloysius, he immediately panics and kills himself to escape arrest, and when he encounters Aloysius in the in between, he is once again horrified. While Benedict was a cunning and crafty individual, he also displayed a sense of ignorance and recklessness, which contributed to his demise after refusing to listen to Auri and Meggy when his hovercraft becomes unstable.
While he is inherently malevolent, the same could not be said for the Goonie his screen is attached to. It seems he is a nice fellow who wishes to be polite, such as when he quietly closed the door when leaving the room and when he waved at Whisk on a rooftop, only for Benedict to always force him to change his approach, sometimes to the brute's sadness.

History[]
He didn't just have smarts, but strength. Gangs would fall before him with just a demonstration of his power.
Benedict came to Port Aurora 100 years ago not only for the Phoenix egg, which was to bring immortality to any individual, so he could build a criminal empire. However, Aloysius sealed him in an egg after that he killed him, but he knew that if he stole the ashes once and for all, he’ll have the power to undo Aloysius’s curse.
At some point in life, he became a crime boss, and had Goonies and other criminals under him, to sabotage the festival to regain his true body. After successfully managing to trick the public into thinking he was a good guy and falsely making himself sheriff, he breached the lighthouse and claimed the Phoenix Egg and waited for it to hatch.
Unfortunately for him, Meggy and Auri were able to return to stop him once and for all. While he did manage to kill Auri during the climax, Meggy was able to snatch the Pheonix Egg from him and use it to revive Auri. During the final battle, he accidentally breathed in the gas from Whisk's gas gun and mistook Auri for Aloysius, so he tried to escape using his throne, but accidentally blew himself up. He ended up waking up in The In-Between... where he reunited with the real Aloysius, much to his horror.
