The SMG4/GLITCH Wiki

Dead Memes are Memes that are no longer relevant to the mainstream audience and run the risk of becoming corrupted if they aren't properly cleansed.

Originally, memes first appeared in the world of Mage where they were looked after by Fred and his guardian, SMG0. However, after they began to corrupt for the first time, Zero journeyed to the Great Beyond and met with the God Box, to which he prayed for a way to return the memes to normal. In response, the God Box granted him a partner named Niles. With his help, SMG0 and Fred created the Internet Graveyard, a safe haven for dead memes where they would be cleansed until they became relevant again, thus beginning the Meme Life Cycle.

After being corrupted by the God Box, Niles accidentally killed Fred and possessed SMG0 to become a virus, thus ending the Mage universe and resulting in a new universe based on the Newgrounds game, Spudnick's Great Adventure, where two new meme guardians were responsible for taking SMG0 and Niles' place as its guardians: SMG1 and SMG2. Unfortunately, this ended when Niles (as Eldritch SMG0) found this universe and used his virus power to try and convert their avatar, Spudnick, only to accidentally kill him from the strain, thus dooming One and Two's universe the same way he did with Zero's universe. However, SMG1 and SMG2 managed to evacuate the Newgrounds characters while trapping the virus inside of the real SMG0's USB.

Due to this, another universe was created to replace it, this time based on the Nintendo 64 emulator of Super Mario 64. Here, two more meme guardians would appear to uphold the life cycle of the memes in SMG1 and SMG2's place, with the new guardians being SMG3 and SMG4. Unfortunately, once again due to the intervention of the corrupted Niles, they were prevented from properly fulfilling their duties as meme guardians due to SMG3 being sent to where SMG4 was and caused them to become enemies insteasd of partners, since Three was meant to become the ruler of the Internet Graveyard and watch over the dead memes while Four would remain in the mortal real, and make them happy in order to keep both sides balanced.

It wasn't until approximately a decade later that things were unintentionally set right with SMG3's banishment to the Internet Graveyard where he learned to his surprise that he was always meant to be there and succeeded in taking back his rightful control of the realm from its de facto leaders, the Ancient Memes, who did very poorly in their guardian's absence but thanks to SMG3, the Internet Graveyard was finally returned to its proper state as a sanctuary for dead memes.

History[]

  • SMG4: The Internet Graveyard - In their first appearance, the dead memes are seen as being the predominant obstacle in the path of Mario, Luigi, and a now-insane Axol during the trio's search for the Starbucks located within the Graveyard. They were hostile and would attack any trespassers that entered the Internet Graveyard.
  • SMG4: Perfectly Balanced. - The Dead Memes return when Mario and SMG4 are brought into the Graveyard because of a corrupted Morshu and they are less hostile although they now obey SMG3 and do what he wants them to do.
  • SMG4 Movie: 10 Year Anniversary Special - SMG4 talks SMG3 into bringing the now dead memes that featured on previous episodes of SMG4 to the 10th anniversary party but thanks to Zero's interference, the dead memes become corrupted and wreak havoc, kidnapping Mario and his recolors and trapping the rest of the gang in Peach's Castle. SMG4, X and FM form Meme Machine to turn the corrupted Memes back to normal at the end and SMG3 takes them back to the Internet Graveyard.
  • SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2021 - A group of corrupted dead memes (labelled Ax0l's Stans by SMG3) are summoned by Niles in Ax0l's form in a bid to stop SMG4 and his allies from freeing Mario. SMG4 and SMG3 with their newfound meme manipulation powers are easily able to channel their energy into Mario and SMG1 and SMG2 later turn a corrupt Morshu into a bomb to distract Zero.

Trivia[]

  • It was originally applied that when Niles was thought to be the real SMG0, that he was responsible for the corruption of the Dead Memes due to his status as a virus. However, it was later revealed in the SMG4 Movie: REVELATIONS, that the dead memes were corrupting even before Niles existed and was because SMG0 himself didn't have a partner and thus couldn't use his powers to cleanse them and required Niles' help to create the Internet Graveyard in order to establish a natural order that would prevent memes from corrupting in the future.
