Knuckles the Echidna is a red anthropomorphic echidna character from Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games and is one of the characters in Sonic the Derphog series as well as the former secondary antagonist turned major character of SMG4: If Mario Was In... Sonic Movie 2.
Differences between SMG4's portrayal and source material[]
In the Sonic games, Knuckles is portrayed as a determined and serious but sometimes gullible character. He can glide and climb up walls and is a powerful fighter due to his spiked hands. He also serves as the guardian of the Master Emerald, a huge gemstone that controls the series' integral Chaos Emeralds. Once an antagonist, he learned about what Dr. Eggman was trying to do, and is now on Sonic's team.
In the SMG4 universe though, although mostly restricted to minor roles and cameos apart from SM64: R******* Recap 2015 and SMG4: War On Smash Bros Ultimate, he is shown to be obsessive with Sonic Adventure 2 and is a bit insane at times.
