MD-5 is the main protagonistic group that rebels against TAS Corp. and more specifically its head, Derek Lucks.
The team originally comprised of Masa, Sofia, and Lamar but were joined a year later by Tari and Theo. However, following their failed attempt to hack TASCorp's server, Theo was held hostage by Lucks and Tari surrendered herself to him in order to save the others.
Six months later, Tari was able to make contact again and they were joined by Belle in order to stop Lucks. Despite succeeding in exposing Lucks' illegal activities, Masa unexplainedly shot him and was left with Belle as the police arrived while the others escaped the crime scene, before being discovered by Marco.
Their headquarters is in a hidden room at the back of the Ramen Restaurant.
History[]
Season 1[]
MD-5 was founded about a year before the events of the show by Masa to retaliate against TAS Corp. for the lives they destroyed, due to him believing Lucks had killed Lucinia Porter following her unexplained disappearance.
He eventually formed MD-5, and recruited a hacker and Lucinia's sister, Sofia Porter, and an otaku Meta Runner, Lamar Williams. Despite their best efforts, any attempts to gather information and expose them were thwarted due to the company's high level of security.
Later on, they recruited Tari and Theo. They manage to come up with a new plan called Operation: Silent Demon, which involves Tari performing a glitch that can cause a reaction in the upcoming game competition, in order for Lucks' servers to be hackable.
The gang succeeds at first but was later backfired. Lucks managed to have Sofia's laptop in exchange for Masa's life. Later, Tari offers herself in exchange for her friends' freedom. Lucks made sure of this by holding Theo's conscience hostage.
Season 2[]
Shortly after their defeat in the arena, Masa leaves MD-5 and hides in the low-tier. Lamar and Sofia look for Masa in the low-tier and manage to find him playing a Samurai-bot game against strangers. After some convincing, Masa agrees to join and competes against Sofia's friend Marco for a new Meta Runner arm.
After Masa gets his new Meta Runner arm, the three discuss the upcoming showmatch featuring Tari and Evelyn. Tari sends multiple friend requests to Lamar on Pocket Gakusei, and the three reunite with Tari, discussing the plan.
Belle, now realizing how long Lucks lied to her, decides to take him down too. Initially, they were paranoid on letting her join MD-5, but after some discussion, allowed her to join. Three of the members were captured by Lucks: Masa for punching him in the face, Belle for helping Theo, and Sofia for stealing the server.
Tari succeeds in beating Theo's glitched game and brings Theo back into the real world. After Lamar crashes Lucks' van, Masa gets the upper hand of Lucks and Lucks accepts his defeat. However, Lucks gets shot by Masa and the team was split - Tari, Theo, Lamar and Sofia get captured by Marco, while Masa and Belle get arrested by the police.
Season 3[]
A week after Lucks' murder, Tari, Sofia, Lamar and Theo are held prisoner by Marco, who wanted to have a clean rematch since the last time Marco played against MD-5, he was hijacked with a Meta Bug. But when Tari warps, she doesn't warp into Marco's requested fame. Instead, she warped into her creator, Dr Sheridan's server.
Masa and Belle wake up, not in jail, but in cyberspace. It is revealed that Sheridan kidnapped them and gave them the ability to warp into games, but suffered minor brain damage.

- MD5 is the name of a hashing algorithm. Its strength is very weak compared to more modern hashing algorithms.
- Not counting Theo, Sofia is the only member of MD-5 to not be a Meta Runner
