Marco is one of the two overcharging protagonists in Meta Runner, debuting in Season 2. He resides in the Rustworks as a powerful icon, having gahtered influence over the low tier of Silica City, with all of his subordinates residing there as well. He makes business through wagers usually involving Meta Runner arms as prizes while also hosting his gameshow, usually surrounding his favorite, Turbo Crash 9.
He is an old friend of Sofia Porter because of their previous business dealings in the past, due to her advanced hacking skills. However, he has a distaste for Meta Runners who hail from the upper echelons of the city as seen with his initial dislike of Masa, even more so after realizing that the latter cheated him out of a Meta Runner arm during their match.
Appearance[]
Marco is a tall, well-built individual with green eyes and full facial hair while having slick, brown hair that is shaved on both sides of his head, revealing tattoos revolving around his ears.
Wearing a dark blue shirts with sleeves rolled up at the joints and black gloves on each hand while wearing tight brown pants and a matching belt, with tall dark boots.
He wears a large, mechanical pack that holds two custom-built Meta Runner Arms to grant him the ability to hold two controllers at once. The mechanical parts extend to his real arms with metal endoskeletons on each limb and wires going the strap on his chest while another goes directly into the back of his head.
Personality[]
Marco comes off as a loud and boisterous man who enjoys the thrill of challenges, basking in his victory and influence over the low tier of Silica City, or the "Rustworks".
Despite his seemingly arrogant demeanor, Marco admires honesty and hard work and believes that power should be earned, not simply given to someone. This is his main reason for disliking Meta Runners who dwell in the upper echelons of the city, especially TAS Corp. runners due to him believing everything they have is simply due to their rich benefactors, like Lucks, giving them everything on a silver platter and that they don't work for their arms, talent or fame.
These beliefs are what led to him creating his own Meta Runner arms from scratch instead of buying them. Also being impartial and fair to any who are able to beat him in a game/bet; giving no special treatment or exceptions to anyone, regardless if they're from the high tier, low tier, friends or enemies.
Although he was reluctant to hold up his end of the deal with giving Masa a new Meta Runner arm due to him believing that the latter did something to cheat, he begrudginly sticks to his principles and grants him the prize.
However, his supiscions were proven correct all along when he learned that Masa did in fact cheat during their match by sabotaging his arms, proving that Marco has a great abhorrence for cheaters and those who attempt to take shortcuts to get what they want, proving that he is indeed fair and doesn't make excuses when things don't go his way.
History[]
It is stated that in the past he helped Sofia get out of trouble with the rolling cartridge gang as she helped him with the Luminous Gaming hack.
Season 2[]
In Unreal Engines it is shown that he was cheering for his subordinate to finish the challenger off. Cheering at his side's victory, he makes the losing player give up his meta runner arm despite their insistence that they will be nothing without it. As they drags them off, one of his subordinates tells Sofia to stop right there as to which he turns around.
Surprised to see "little miss vigilante hacker" herself in his turf, he asks why she's returned to which Sofia replies that she is in need of cybernetic implants to which he asks what happened to the last one he gave her, until he notices Masa and Lamar being halted by one of the guards and allows them to enter.
Sofia introduces Lamar, but Marco finishes by realizing that the rumors about Masa's dismissal from TASCorp. were true, mocking Lucks' "golden boy" for being just another decomissioned Meta Runner slumming it in the low tier, to Masa's annoyance.
Despite this, Sofia asks Marco if he's willing to let them wager him to win a new Meta Runner arm for Masa. He agrees if they can come up with an entry fee and Sofia realizes that she isn't owed any favors by him and he explains that he has a reputation to uphold: no exceptions, neither to friends or "superstar celebraties".
Lamar tells Marco that if he lets them play, he'll use his own Meta Runner arm as the entry fee, an arm for an arm. Liking the deal, Marco agrees to a co-op deathmatch but on the condition that Masa has to be Lamar's partner and taunts Masa, asking if he can win a game without his gift from "daddy Lucks", to which Masa responds that he could beat Marco with one hand tied behind his back as he pats his shoulder, to which Marco shoves him off without realizing that Masa secretly placed a control bug on his arm.
Marco then gets ready as Lamar and Masa warm up and after some time Marco gives an announcement to the Rustworks as he tells the others that he will be playing in the game alongside with the other players to beat Masa and Lamar. After the announcement he starts the game in co-op by himself basically as the game starts.
Throughout the game as Masa and Lamar were busy trying to survive Marco was busy farming and looting players that he demolished. This causes his truck to be very packed with armor and weapons. As soon as Masa and Lamar get out of the cave only they and Marco are left as Marco then chases after them mocking Lamar and Masa a bit.
He bombards them and tries to ram into them as Lamar and Masa then head to a place where to trap him. Though Marco’s missiles then busts Lamar’s and Masa’s engines. This causes him to get cocky as he comments on how he is going to win as he revs up. However his arms start to malfunction as he is confused as to what is going on. Masa however capitalizes on this as he then shoots at the chain holding a boulder which drops and demolishes Marco thus causing him to lose the match.
Marco is flabbergasted as Masa walks up to him as Masa says good game by placing his hand on Marco’s shoulders to take the bug back. Marco was furious as he shrugs Masa’s arm off as he thinks Masa has cheated as he argues. This causes the others to step in as Sofia said he needs to take it or leave it since these are his rules and no special treatment allowed.
He then frustratingly gives Sofia, Lamar, and Masa the winnings and parts to make a new meta runner arm as he just lets them go. As they go however he then rests as he puts his hands on his shoulder to contemplate about it. While contemplating he makes a face that he may have realized something there.
Marco didn't appear for the rest of Season 2 until Fatal Error where he shows up as Tari, Lamar, Theo, and Sofia are running away and he captured them.
Season 3[]
A week after he captured them and the group tried another failed escape attempt, Marco reveals that his main issue wasn't with them, but with Masa after learning he actually did cheat during their game of Turbo Crash 9. Because of this, he challenged the group to another game with their Meta Runner Arm's and their freedom at stake with them having to join his gang if they lose. Before they began playing however, Tari was kidnapped within her mind by Evelyn Claythorne and Sheridan and Theo was teleported to the space they were at as well.
Frustrated that he wasn't getting his proper rematch, Marco learned that something was wrong with Tari and reluctantly gave Sofia her laptop back while ordering one of his men to keep an eye on her.
Later when Tari escaped the tutorial for Skybreakers, Marco along with Lamar and Theo managed to meet up with her after she was chased by Evelyn. Marco stated that he was helping them because he was told they knew how he could get to Masa.
Throughout their time working together, Marco continually looked down on Tari due to her struggling without her Meta Runner Vision. By the time they reached the port city, Tari became frustrated with Marco and asked him why he kept doing it with Marco revealing why he hates Meta Runner's that work with corporations and how he got earned his robotic arms and stated that he earned the right to look down on her.
At that point, Evelyn shot Marco due to Sheridan hacking the system despite the location they were at being a safe zone. Because of this, Tari had to get back to the ship by herself while Marco had to wait to respawn back at the ship. Once he, Lamar and Theo respawned however, the Bot Boy at her ship destroyed Marco's ship as he stated he stole it fair and square.
Because of this, the group had to find a new ship so they wouldn't respawn at the beginning of the game. After they stole another ship and Tari managed to shoot down the cannon fire without her Meta Runner Vision, Marco congratulated her and gave her the chance to capture the ship instead of himself as a way of saying thanks for her help.
