Synopsis[]
The SMG4 Crew take a trip to Costco for those beloved $1.50 Hotdogs 🌭 Mario gets hopelessly, hopelessly lost.
Plot[]
At a Costco, Melony, Mario, Bob, and Meggy arrive, with the help of Melony's membership card, which she shows to the Costco Bear outside. They enter the store, with Bob throwing the bear out of the way, into a nearby meat grinder. While Melony eagerly explores the store, Mario and Bob are distracted with wanting to try Costco’s $1.50 hotdogs, which makes Meggy ask if it’s worth the hype, even skipping breakfast to eat. Bob then tells the tale of Costco’s very first employee “forging” the hotdog, claiming it’s so powerful it can revive the dead, but Meggy dismisses it, only for Bob to make a "your mom" joke, celebrating with Mario. Despite this, Meggy chooses to focus on getting Melony a new bed after she destroyed it; a flashback reveals that while sleeping, she dreamt of Axol Jr leaving her for a pineapple, saying "you are not my friend anymore!", which frightened her into throwing it away and wrecking it. While Melony is nervous, they go off anyways, while Mario and Bob split up to go find the hotdogs.
In the food section, there are numerous vendors giving free samples, and Mario soon smells something; it's the taste of a limited run spaghetti chocolate. Despite initially resisting, he runs up to eat some of it, only for Bob to tackle him to the ground. Bob reminds Mario about why they came, only for the $1.50 hotdogs, and tapes up his head to prevent him from pulling off another similar stunt. Meanwhile, in the bed section, Melony tests various beds, such as a Minecraft bed, a spooky four-poster, a hamburger bed, a foldable bed (which accidentally traps her), and a clown bed. The hours go by, and Meggy grows increasingly frustrated with how long it’s taking. Eventually, Melony picks a race car bed, after finding it and at Meggy's insistence, but it turns out to be a real car, because of an ignition key she turns, and it speeds around the store uncontrollably before crashing from hitting a coin. The crash sends Melony and her membership card flying out, while Meggy stares angrily at her. As for Bob and Mario, the two frantically search through the stalls for the hotdogs, at one point holding K-Pop Satan at gunpoint, with Bob threatening to chop off his "hotdog", frightening the Flummie. Fortunately, Melony's card lands right near them, and Mario takes notice. Seeing the picture of Melony with the hotdog, Bob soon realizes that Melony knows where the hotdog stand is, and they resolve to find her. Bob gets a scent from the card, Mario climbs him, and the two speed off after Melony.
Meanwhile, Meggy gets fed up with how long things are taking, at one point sarcastically saying that pillow fights are just as important, which makes Melony remember that she forgot it, and decides to do her research over again, leaving Meggy to stifle her anger. After she has gone, Meggy turns into Leggy and goes berserk. During her brief rampage, she finds a Mind Reader Gun, which can turn any thought into reality. Meggy then uses it on Melony, and successfully finds the bed she wanted--an axolotl themed bed. Melony is happy, and so is Meggy now that they found the bed at last, but it doesn't last for long; Melony falls asleep again, having a dream about being on the beach with axolotls. Meggy tries to shake her up, causing Melony's dream to become a nightmare, where she sees a large shadowy Meggy over them, somehow saying the same words from her dream with Axol Jr. This causes Melony to physically react, drawing out her deity sword and nearly slicing Meggy, who dodges her slash, the slash caused the partial background temporarily missing it's texture. She tries to carefully wake Melony up this time, but is stopped when she hears a voice. Looking around, she sees Mario and Bob, angry and hungry, charging after Melony for hot dogs, despite Meggy trying to stop them, only to get shoved aside. To wake her up, Mario jumps on her bed while Bob suplexes Melony, demanding the hotdogs. Once again, this causes Melony to suffer a nightmare, similar to her previous one, but with distorted figures of Mario and Bob, who say the exact same words from before. Melony reacts even more physically, drawing out her sword, getting on her feet while still asleep, and chasing Mario and Bob while swinging her sword. Bob and Mario narrowly dodge multiple slashes that slice the beds in half, and run to the storage house. While being chased, Mario and Bob spot something that gets them very excited--a $1.50 hotdog stand, run by Shroomy. Despite having come across a miracle, their joy is short-lived when Melony destroys the stand, leaving behind only one hotdog that survives the explosion. Mario and Bob both try to reach it, but they soon start fighting over it.
Meggy arrives on the scene, and gets worried about the destruction caused by Melony. To try and stop it, Meggy uses the Mind Reader Gun on Melony again, to find out the root cause of all this. Entering her mind, Meggy witnesses Melony back when she was a watermelon, with her parents at Costco, near the hotdog stall. Here, little Melony watched her mother get into an angry argument with her father, Watermelon Man, over their marriage, which led to her divorcing and leaving the family, uttering the same words from Melony's nightmares, showing where it all began. The incident left Melony very afraid of being alone, causing her to cry forlornly, until her father gave her a $1.50 hotdog to eat, which helped to calm her down. Meggy is saddened by Melony's story, which she is reliving in her mind, causing her Fierce Deity powers to activate. This causes a massive shockwave that starts wrecking the store, with shelves falling over, items falling out of the shelves, and the ceiling caving in.
Watching Mario and Bob fight over the last $1.50 hotdog, Meggy calls them and tells them to give it to Melony, but they refuse. However, Melony's deity powers kick into overdrive, causing more destruction, making Mario finally realize the whole situation, giving him an epiphany. He asks Bob to let go of the hotdog, saying if Melony destroys the store with her Fierce Deity powers, they too will perish and never be able to eat hotdogs, adding that they can have plenty tomorrow instead of today. At first, Bob adamantly refuses, but when he realizes the truth in Mario's words, he decides to relent. The two sadly say their goodbyes to the hotdog, before throwing it to Melony, landing right into her mouth and eating it. As expected, Melony calms down, turns back to normal, and wakes up from her sleep. Meggy is relieved, helps Melony choose her axolotl-themed bed and leaves Costco, exhausted, while Mario and Bob faint because of the whole ordeal.

Trivia[]
- Max Sturz (@WizardzWiz) would make his writing debut on SMG4. He would also be the first storyboard artist for SMG4.
- This is the first episode to have a storyboard during its production.
- This episode reveals that despite her disconnection from Mr. Puzzles, Meggy seems able to turn into Leggy in times of stress, albeit without her asserting behavior.
- This is the first time we’ve seen Melony’s mother, outside of a reference in SMG4 Movie: REVELATIONS.
- This is the twelfth episode to not feature N64 models after SMG4: [NINTENDO HAS CLAIMED THIS VIDEO], SMG4: CEO OF RIZZ, Mario's Mysteries, Once Upon An SMG4, Scooby Mario, Where'd You Go!, Despicable Mr. Puzzles, Mr Puzzles' Lowest Point, Mr. Puzzles Clubhouse, Mario Teaches Parenting, Mario's Bike Trip, SMG4 CHRISTMAS SPECIAL 2024.

- Running Gag: Mario and Bob saying weiner (and not the thing, you're thinking of)
- The name of this episode changed a few hours after its release, changing from "Mario Gets Lost In Costco" to "Mario Gets Lost In A Shopping Mall." The reason for this change is currently unknown, although it is believed that SMG4 changed it due to potential copyright issues.
- While this, it appears that Costco is only just a wholesale store and not a shopping mall.
- Mario at no point in the episode, actually gets lost as the title suggests, as he and Bob were looking around for the $1.50 hot dogs.
- This episode was aired ten years after Son of a bowser and five years after Mario School Club.
References[]
- Costco: This episode reveals that Melony has a membership to the wholesale store, Costco. Much of the episode's plot focuses on the Costco hotdog, which only costs $1.50, and famously hasn't had its price changed since its introduction in 1984.
- Looney Tunes: When fighting over the hotdog, Bob quotes Daffy Duck's iconic line of "It's mine!".
- The Simpsons: Melony finding comfort in eating Costco's hotdogs from a young age references the episode "Fatzcarraldo", where Homer ate chili dogs to cope with the fights his parents got into.
