The Mario Recolors, as their name suggests, are a species of human characters who resemble Mario and often represent YouTubers who create Super Mario 64 Machinima. They predominantly appeared as characters in the first few seasons of the series. Their exact in-universe origin is currently unknown, but it is implied to be connected to Mario himself.

Notable Mario recolors
SMG4 is one of the two main protagonists of the series. He is a partially amnesiac blue-and-white amnesiac recolor SMG who makes memes. He was first introduced in Super Mario 64 Bloopers: Account Loss and has since stayed at the castle. His character's personality would evolve years later to the point where the SMG4: SMG4's Origins episode retconned events before his official debuts. One time his model color was changed in Super Mario 64 Bloopers: тнє ριик ρяσвℓєм where Mario accidentally turned his gloves pink however that was solved at the end of the episode. He has the power to (somewhat) tame insane characters by recording them and putting them into his videos. It's revealed in the Genesis Arc that he's a Super Meme Guardian.
SMG3 is the former main antagonist of the series introduced in Super Mario 64 Bloopers: SMG4 VS SMG3 as a villain that copies SMG4 on YouTube. He is a partially amnesiac black-and-blue recolor SMG who's SMG4's counterpart and former arch-nemesis. He has a negative form that makes him powerful in a photo-negative color scheme, but this ability was long forgotten. His recolor has no evolution in the series and stayed the same way since he was introduced. After SMG4: Perfectly Balanced., he has come to a semi-coexistence with SMG4, with him now ruling the Internet Graveyard. Like SMG4, it's revealed in the Genesis Arc that he's a Super Meme Guardian.

Nintendofan997, also known as Armonzii and usually referred to as X, is a supporting character of the series. He is a cyan-and-green recolor whose purpose in modern videos is usually only to serve as the host of WOTFI. He is often paired with FightingMario54321
Starman3 (known as SM3) was a major YouTuber who made multiple appearances in the SMG4 series during the first few seasons. He disappeared completely since due to real life controversy surrounding the person behind the character.
Roprinplup14 (better known as Enzo) was a major YouTuber and a forgotten character in the SMG4 series. His most notable appearance is in Super Mario 64 Bloopers: Birthday Freakout. where he is psychotic and became the main antagonist for this episode and its sequels. He disappeared from the series due to a request made by his real-life counterpart.
MarioMario54321 is a minor YouTuber in the SMG4 (series). In real life, he has done machinima longer than SMG4 has, but the latter quickly surpassed him in popularity.
SMG4's Minion is a clone sister of SMG4 that Mario accidentally created with the cloning machine when trying to clone spaghetti. She is somewhat retarded like Mario and loves hugs.
Crazy Toilet Dude was a minor antagonist of the earlier bloopers who loves toilets. He was a member of SMG3's first gang at one point.
He was the judge for most cases in earlier bloopers.
Until 2018, several have appeared as Mario recolors. As of SMG4: The Mario Café, the Mario recolors were replaced with custom police Mario models until they stopped appearing altogether during 2019. He's the prince of the WoopWoop Kingdom, appearing only in SM64 Bloopers: Castle Royale. He wanted to marry Princess Peach, but Mario didn't approve and had Bowser run him over so that Peach couldn't marry him. He has the same color code as Ruffman8890.

The "perfect clone of Mario" was born specifically from a fan request for Mario to create a clone by... beating the pacer test. The colors of his shirt, hat, and overalls are swapped from Mario's, giving the clone a blue hat and shirt and red overalls. His only purpose was to knock Mario into the moon, and the only word he knows is "twenty-one". He is currently a one time character.
Luigi is the brother of Mario. In his earlier appearances, he was depicted with a simple palette swap of Mario with his trademark colors due to limitations. However, his GMod models properly used Luigi's models. In more recent videos, he uses a custom SM64 model that more closely resembles his canon proportions, effectively separating him from "recolor" status.
Wario is the rival of Mario. In his earliest appearances, he was a palette swap of Mario with his (mostly) trademark colors due to limitations. However his GMod models properly used Wario's models. In 2013 to present, he replaced the recolor model with the Mario Party 3 Wario model instead which resembles his canon proportions, separating him from "recolor status".
Waluigi is the rival of Luigi. In his earliest appearances, he was a palette swap of Mario in 2011 and (mostly) had his trademark colors due to limitations. However his GMod models properly used Waluigi's models. In 2013 to present, he replaced the recolor model with the Mario Party 3 Waluigi model instead which resembles his canon proportions, separating him from "recolor status".
