Melony is a former food item (currently human) and a modern recurring character in the SMG4 series.
It is a watermelon with Meggy Spletzer's Inkling headgear. It debuted in SMG4 Christmas 2019: Mario Alone when Mario created it as a replacement to Meggy once SMG4's Gang departs from Peach's Castle for vacation and leaves him behind. It reappears in S̶M̶G̶4̶: I Can't Believe It's Not SMG4! as a member of the Anti-Cast and became one of the seven former secondary antagonists of the YouTube Arc. Despite being somewhat sentient, it is inanimate and is therefore carried (and influenced) by other characters.
In SMG4: Mario's Mask Of Madness, it was transformed into a lazy human girl using the Fierce Deity Mask from the Happy Mask Salesman. Judging by the model's release of the Steam workshop, it's possible that this redesign is permanent.
Melony is simply a watermelon with the Studio Headphones, Pilot Goggles and the Short Beanie that Meggy wears on top of it. In its debut appearance, the beanie is orange, but as of The YouTube Arc, it is the same color as Meggy's.
After the Fierce Deity Mask landed on her, Melony has turned into an anime girl: she has a black and red watermelon-themed hoodie with a watermelon on the bottom right, black boots, red eyes, shoulder-length green hair with two thick strands sticking up in the back along with watermelon hair clips on the bangs, and black marks on her cheeks that resemble both watermelon seeds and the red stripes seen on Fierce Deity Link's face.
Prior to becoming human, Melony was depicted as being rather vague and mysterious, due to being an motionless and inert watermelon. However, she could still show emotions to a degree, such as blushing when watching Two Piece with Luigi, or shock after she and the Anti-Cast witnessed Frankie's deletion. She is also vastly intelligent, as she bears a massive talent for hacking, which has helped a lot in the past. During her first scene in SMG4: Mario's Mask Of Madness, Axol was assuring her that she could be best girl, implying that Melony dreams to be as popular as some of the female members of SMG4's Gang.
In her human form, Melony develops new characteristics; she is now childish and lazy as she is commonly shown sleeping most of the time, referencing her normal and inactive nature from her past life. Like her melon form, she is also obedient, responding to any orders that are needed from others.
However, Melony can also be defiant to those who attempt to use force on her; when the Happy Mask Salesman attempts to make her give the Fierce Deity Mask back to him, she responds by slapping his hand away while saying "No" to him multiple times. In addition, her massive habit of hacking still remains, as seen when she quickly calls an Uber Eats to help Mario create a massive plate of Spaghetti using the Beeg SMG4 mask to lure a Mario Mask-possessed Meggy.
Powers and abilities
As seen in SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2020, Melony appears to have the ability of summoning helpful weapons or tools when no one is looking, though it also serves as a way to express itself. It also seems to have formidable battle skills; when everyone (except SMG4, Mario, JubJub and Whimpu) fought against SMG3's Oof Buttons, the fourth shot showed that Melony killed one with a sword single-handedly off-screen.
When she became a human, she slapped a Mario Mask-possessed Axol and later the Happy Mask Salesman, though the latter was out of refusal to return the Fierce Deity Mask. Her hacking skills are now actually shown in SMG4: Mario's Mask Of Madness, where Mario asked Melony to use them so they can call an Uber Eats delivery for a plate of spaghetti to distract Meggy, who also became possessed by the mask. Due to the Fierce Deity Mask being the source of her new appearance, it is possible that she obtained the same god-like abilities as Fierce Deity Link.
