The SMG4/GLITCH Wiki

Mobius, or Planet Mobius, is a planet from an alternate dimension to the Mushroom Kingdom, and the main overall setting in the classic/cartoon and comic eras of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, apart from Earth. Besides, it is also the homeworld of Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Eggman, in addition to Tails the Fox, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Shadow the Hedgehog, Rouge the Bat and several others. It appears in the Sonic the Derphog series, but the most seen of it is it's capital island South Island and it's primary level Green Hill Zone, where Sonic and his friends hang out. In the Dreamcast/Modern eras (Sonic Adventure to Sonic Unleashed), Sonic and Co. found themselves on Earth and resumed stopping Eggman's schemes, but eventually returned home to Mobius by Sonic Colors, with the implication that they could travel back and forth between both planets. While the main setting of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) and Sonic Underground television series and Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie) comic series, depicts Sonic's home-world to be identified as Mobius. The dominant species on Mobius are Mobians.

Appearances[]

In Sonic the Derphog: Eggventure (GET IT!?), Sonic spends the day being harassed by Dr. Eggman until Sonic accidentally activates an inter-dimensional teleporter that transports them into the Mushroom City, leaving Mobius behind. However, they have made their way back to it by Sonic the Derphog: The Item Brick, having managed a way to travel back and forth between the Mushroom Kingdom and Mobius as of Sonic the Derphog: Egg and Peach.

Trivia[]

Mobius Concept

Planet Mobius' whole appearance. If you look closely, you'll notice that it looks almost exactly like Earth.

  • In the various continuities of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic's world is offered being referred as either "Earth" or "Mobius in one way or another in which may vary depending on the media it is portrayed in.
    • The video game series generally depicts Sonic living on "Earth", and which is overall setting of the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series. However, prior to Japan putting it's foot down as their interpretation being the definitive canon for the games, it was generally accepted that Mobius was indeed the setting of the games (pre-Sonic Adventure) due to the cartoony and outlandish geology of the various lands and zones matching what was seen in the cartoons and comics. It was later reestablished that Sonic and Co. do in fact live on an alternate world (unspoken as Mobius) from Earth, and every so often is able to travel back and forth between both dimensions, leading to different settings in select games. In 2022, however, the developers went back on this claim, with canon material estabilishing Sonic's world and Earth as one and the same, where humans and anthropomorphic animals co-exist.
    • The comic book series by Archie Comics reveals that the planet of "Mobius" is actually the Earth of a distant future, that was drastically changed in geology and fauna by a gene-bombing by alien invaders called the Xorda during a war against them and mankind due to Dr. Robotnik/Eggman's distant ancestor detaining and dissecting a Xorda emissary. The radiation and fallout of said bio-bombs drove humanity to near-extinction and forced the surviving population (Eggman's ancestors amongst them) underground into cities like Station Square, and the primordial biomass of man and animal left behind to be merged and evolve into sentient hybrid beings which came to called Mobians, of which Sonic himself and his friends would all come forth from.
    • The anime television series Sonic X depicts Sonic's world and Earth as once a single planet, split into two by an undisclosed reality-warping event and ended up in different dimensions.
    • The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film, Mobius and Earth vaguely exist within the same universe, located far away from each other.
