The Mushroom Kingdom (briefly Kingdom of Mario Land in SMG4: Mario The Supreme Leader) is a monarchical governed state, a principality ruled by the Toadstool Dynasty that which is almost always the main setting where SMG4's bloopers take place. There are many different species that reside in the kingdom including Toads (the majority), humans, Goombas, Koopas and Teletubbies. The members of SMG4's Gang gang also live there, with the sole exception of Tari.

Overview

Geography

The Mushroom Kingdom is a country where most of the Mario games take place. The geography of the country varies, from green plains, jungles, deserts, snowy lands and volcanic areas. From evidence in the series, it is shown that the green plains is where most of the citizens live and where the desert is the most inhospitable places to live, with only a few people living there and due to high radioactivity in the region due to an amount of nuclear test sites being located there.

The capital of the kingdom is called Mushroom City. Meanwhile, the official currency in the kingdom uses Mushroom coins. All vehicles in the kingdom drive on the right side on the road, with the steering wheel on each car on the left side. However, it is shown in some videos that vehicles would drive on the left side of the road (much like its seen in countries such as in Australia, Britain, and Japan), probably due to the series being made in Australia, where cars drive on the left side. Still, steering wheels are located on the left.

Government

(see Mushroom Kingdom Government for more)

The Toadstool family is the ruling dynasty over the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom, with the current ruler being Peach Toadstool, the Princess of the kingdom, taking over the role from her unseen father, the Mushroom King. She resides at her official residence, which is her castle located north of the capital. While the monarch is the head of state of the kingdom, most of the power in the country is handled by the President of the Mushroom Kingdom, who is the head of government and the monarch's adviser, as seen in Super Mario 64 Bloopers: President Toad Washington. This is unusual since the head of government in a monarchial state is usually called the Prime Minister.

As evidenced in most games, the President of the Mushroom Kingdom has been in fact mostly Toads. Here below is the list of people so far who became president:

(1996 - 2000)

(2000 - 2002)

(2012)

It is unknown who is the president after 2002.

History

In its history, the Mushroom Kingdom may have been under foreign powers and was ruled as a colony by a certain European country (since most colonies were ruled by European countries at that time, said to be France), which explains the appearance of the Declaration of Independence in the Mushroom City Natural History Museum in The Mario Channel: MARIOBUSTERS. After the kingdom gained independence, the Toadstool family then took over power from their colonizers. Sometime later, the kingdom adopted English as their official language.

As shown in SMG4: Super Challenge 64 and SMG4: Wario Tries To Stop Himself From Dying, the kingdom is a nuclear-weapon state, shown in the army dropping their nuclear bomb on Mushroom City and their nuclear test, killing Wario, respectively. It is presumed to had become one during the height of the Cold War, where the government started to build it's nuclear bombs to counter the nuclear tests conducted by the United States and the Soviet Union. From its nuclear tests, it shows that the kingdom is not part of the Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

However, due to the government's decision to test their nuclear bombs too frequently, it had caused a negative change of landscape in the country, forcing many citizens to evacuate their homes immediately after nuclear bomb had been tested, with examples shown in R64: Mario's Road Trip, where Mario, SMG4 and Toad were travelling in a deserted city, possibly due to nuclear radiation being present as a result of a nuclear test, and in SMG4: Wario Tries To Stop Himself From Dying, where another deserted city is shown in a desert, due to its close proximity with the test site.

Currently, the kingdom suggested to have being oppressing those who criticize the monarchy, due to the lèse-majesté laws in place, showing that the country is somewhat not that democratic and free, shown in SMG4: Mario Is Cancelled.

In SMG4: Mario The Supreme Leader, a castle patron, Mario, took the role as the acting King of the Mushroom Kingdom after accidentally having his pet rock wizard sending away the regent, Toadsworth. Assuming his role, he became the first ever monarch to not come from the Toadstool dynasty, and quickly became an efficient leader despite not having any experience in politics. He became power-hungry, effectively cracking down on dissent, and turning the monarchy into a republic, making himself the Supreme Leader of Mario Land. After a failed revolution, he was forced to be stripped of his role after Peach returned from her holiday, and took back the crown, restoring the Mushroom Kingdom and the monarchy.

Catastrophes

Throughout the series' timeline, the kingdom has been seen in much peril, such as being invaded by bootleg supremacists, two T-Pose pandemics, and pro-anime riots. Additionally, there was a timeline set 500 years in the future where sentient Weegee Dolls conquered the kingdom, which fortunately was undone by Luigi, Fishy Boopkins, Shroomy, and Mario's descendant New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra.

In SMG4: Mario Runs Out Of Toilet Paper, Satan (disguised as the Papa John food mascot) decides to destroy the world and kill everyone just for the fun of it. To do so, he causes a toilet paper shortage in the kingdom. As its citizens depended on the paper, a panic-mass buying of toilet paper began, but thanks to SMG4's gang, the plot ended.

Even with those catastrophes, the kingdom is able to rebuild every single time, probably due to its strong economy, hinting that it is a developed country.

Trivia

  • The Mushroom Kingdom's population is around 15 million people, since, at the beginning of SMG4: Mario and The Diss Track, the counter of Bob's fans is around that number, while Saiko said "everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom are already fans of him", although she could just be exaggerating.
  • In the Nintendo counterpart, Bowser rules the Koopa Kingdom, but in SMG4's universe, he and all Koopas seem to live along with the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • The Mushroom Kingdom has been through numerous apocalyptic events and attacks; too many to even count, but notable events include:
  • The Mushroom Kingdom may possibly be located at Europe and the Mediterranean Sea, according to SMG4: A Day In The Life Of Everyone.
  • The Mushroom Kingdom may have been under foreign powers and was ruled by a colony as a certain European country, which explains the appearance of the Declaration of Independence in The Mario Channel: MARIOBUSTERS.
  • The Mushroom Kingdom could be a constitutional monarchy, as Tari has stated the word "President". But it could possibly be a former constitutional monarchy before converting into an absolute monarchy.
  • Tari is the only member of SMG4's Gang to not reside in the kingdom, as she is revealed to be from Onett in SMG4: The Big Bad Bully.
