Octolings are the Octarian equivalent of Inklings, and thus are humanoid cephalopods from the Splatoon franchise. That same species became available as playable characters in Splatoon 2 after beating the Octo Expansion DLC. In Splatoon 3, Octolings do not need to be unlocked and are playable from the start, just like Inklings.
In SMG4 series[]
This species appeared a few times in the SMG4 series as minor characters or in cameos. The character Desti, being the first original Octoling created in that same series, made her first appearance in SMG4: If Mario Was In... Splatoon 2 as a main antagonist.
