—Old Man Hobo's Catchphrase, SMG4: Welcome To Mario Mart™

Old Man Hobo (usually referred to as the Old Man or Old Guy and at one point Gustavo when wearing Luigi's hat), is a recurring character in the SMG4 series.

He is a senile old man that often gets into trouble. He's possibly a mascot of SMG4 because he is at the bottom right corner of his videos. There are in fact several Old Men.

Not all of the Old Men Hobos are actually hobos, as some are shown to be genies, wizards, princesses, killers, or rapists. He has appeared less often in later bloopers but still appears in non-speaking cameos similar to Hideo Kojima in The Anime Arc.

As of 2022, he has spiked up in appearances due to getting a new 3D model. The change was presumably due to the fact that a 3D model would work much better than just a simple sprite.

The decrease in Old Man Hobo's appearances in later bloopers was due to a transition from sprite to a 3D model, which was deemed more effective. Despite this, he continued to make non-speaking cameos, akin to Hideo Kojima in The Anime Arc. His appearances spiked in 2022 with the introduction of the new 3D model.

Physical Appearance[]

Old Man Hobo always has his classic appearance no matter what blooper he is in (except for when he is dressed in a costume or in the episode SMG4: Mario Babies) where he is an old man who has Caucasian skin white eyebrows and a white beard, along with a blue robe like outfit. He also appears to be more tiny than the other characters. On his 3D model, he is wearing a blue overlarge patterned sweater without anything under and flip flops. But has a bushy spiky bottomed moustache and still has his beard.

Abilities/Power[]

Powerlevel: D[]

  • Fourth wall breaking and restoring (presumably): In "Super Mario 64 Bloopers: Breaking Walls" it's presumed that Old Man Hobo is able to break the fourth wall by being able to transfer SMG4 and Mario in and out of the blooper and he also can restore the fourth wall barrier as well.
  • Assert Dominance: When asserting himself as the Alpha Male, Old Man Hobo grows intensely muscular and greatly increases his strength. This strength increase however, is proven to be nowhere near a match to Meggy's.
