The SMG4 Wiki

SMG4's Twitter & Discord Hacker Incident was an event that lead to SMG4's Discord (including the original SMG4 Discord server) and Twitter account to be compromised and taken over by a hacker.

The incident unfolded hours after releasing SMG4: Goodbye, SMG4 on October 1, 2022, and it was referenced in SMG4 Movie: IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT.

Background[]

It started when Luke got a message from "BenJoJoGV" via Discord, not aware that a hacker had taken over that account. The hacker sent a message, claiming that his friend was an unemployed indie game developer and that "BenJoJoGV" wanted Luke to try out their first game, containing a .exe file that entered their email and password. As a result, his Discord crashed, and the hacker took over his Discord and Twitter account.[1]

Hacker's takeover[]

Due to how out of hand the fandom reacted, the Discord was put on lockdown and users were warned to not speak to the SMG4 Discord and Twitter account. With the help of his brother Kevin, Luke made an announcement about this incident. Thankfully, his YouTube account was not compromised, and they also stated that they are working hard to resolve the issue.[2]

Aftermath[]

After a few hours, Luke managed to get his Discord and Twitter accounts back and secured, and started slowly getting things back to normal.[3]

However, as a result of the hacker's takeover, all of his tweets, replies, and photos were deleted on Twitter, and the account lost its verified tag. Afterward, a new Discord server was created, and the old one has been locked ever since.

Since the incident, Luke stated he would make sure to be more careful not to click on any links that can get himself hacked, including his fans.

Trivia[]

  • During the incident, YouTuber 64ify took the "smg4official" Twitter handle to protect it before eventually giving it back to Luke. In a Q&A that he did on this wiki, he states that he snatched the username almost immediately after a close friend of his alerted 64ify of the situation, because he was "worried that someone could take it to impersonate SMG4 himself".

Cryptobros Hack Incident (Glitch Productions)[]

On April 2, 2025, one crypto brother/person decided to hack Glitch Productions' Twitter account to promote crypto scams, since Twitter's customer support is slow due to Elon Musk firing half of the staff team, this is really bad as the Glitch Prod. account got in the risk of being suspended.

In response on April 8, 2025, u/ayylmaotv on Reddit shared a post on r/TheDigitalCircus that the account is still hacked and posting crypto scams, the user posted a image of Kevin's response by tweeting out "fuck this guy. we are indeed still hacked. twitter support is very slow" below one of the crypto tweets that "announces" they're releasing a GLITCH memecoin which the cryptobro said they will own 70% of it, 60% is locked and 10% is for marketing, albeit a message from Twitter that it isn't rated but isn't the thing focused on, under the comment section.

Kevin and the Glitch Productions team got the account back on a unknown time and deleted all of the crypto scam tweets. Just besides Twitter's slow and bad customer support.
