Don't Hug Me I'm Mario is the forty-fourth episode of Season 12 of the SMG4 series, the five hundred and ninety-first within the SMG4 series, and the seven hundred and seventy-third video overall to be uploaded on the SMG4 channel.
Duck, Red Guy and Yellow Guy make their first appearances. The video was uploaded on November 26, 2022.
Synopsis[]
Mario and SMG4 end up in a strange place with some totally not-strange people.
Plot[]
Mario and SMG4 walked into the door of a derelict house. Trying to go back, Mario noticed the Duck, Yellow Guy and Red Guy sitting at a table, talking about their emotions. Mario tried to leave, however were noticed by the puppets, who asked them if they wanted to join them about talking emotions. Mario declined and insulted them by telling them he felt bored. When Mario tried to reach for the door, the puppets were standing in the way, surprising him.
Feeling scared, SMG4 asked them to allow him and Mario to leave, but the Duck continued on his lesson on happiness. Singing a song about it, SMG4 and Mario joined along but their lyrics conveyed fear instead. The song then continued about sadness, where the Duck sang about how his parents left him. As they continued to sing and dance, SMG4 and Mario attempted to leave again, but the puppets got angry, so they tried to flee, only to find that the door is locked.
The puppets disappeared from the table, so Mario and SMG4 tried to find the exit through the basement. In the basement, they encountered creepy sightings, until the puppets caught on to them. Trying to defend themselves, SMG4 spotted Yellow Guy sitting in despair. Feeling guilty for him, SMG4 went to comfort him, against Mario's warnings, Yellow Guy started mutating, and they were later surrounded and captured.
Tied up, SMG4 pleaded to the puppets to set them free, to which the puppets began teaching about love. The puppets then mutated, then dressing SMG4 and Mario as their parents. When they refused to give attention to them, the puppets became more sinister and then distorted the world, teaching them about "creativity". As the scene cuts back to Mario seeing the distortion visions, and with the puppets back at the table, SMG4 had the idea to sing a song about hope, enlightening the puppets about how they have each other despite not having their parents anymore.
Feeling enlightened, the puppets embraced each other, and gave them slices of cake as a sign of gratitude. The exit opens, allowing SMG4 and Mario to escape. Finally escaping the house, they ended up at the exit of a McDonald's PlayPlace, where the puppets were characters created by McDonald's. Seeing what they went through, they left, with SMG4 remarking that he would never play at McDonald's again.

- SMG4: Lost In The Woods: Mario says that SMG4 gets lost looking for the bathroom. Ironically, Mario gets lost himself this time looking for the bathroom.
- SMG4: The Cursed Tapes: When the puppets vanish to "surprise" SMG4, his reaction (a shocked face before freaking out in his SM64 model) is similar to Mario's when the latter sees the "Found You" poster.

The episode currently has a 6.4/10 rating on IMDb, it was overall decent to viewers.
Errors[]
- When Mario expresses his boredom, the video and sound effects are out of sync. They return in sync when Mario turns and faces the Yellow Guy.
- Throughout the video, Duck is inconsistently referred to as Duck Guy and Bird Guy.
- Yellow Guy, Duck, and Red Guy's roles as villainous teachers are inaccurate to their roles in the original series, in which they are the victims of the teachers' actions.

- Don't Hug Me I'm Scared: This episode is an obvious parody to this British musical comedy-horror television series created by Becky Sloan, Joe Pelling and Baker Terry based on the webseries of the same name. Many characters from the show, such as Tony the Talking Clock, make appearances as well.
- The slice of cake that the Duck gives to Mario and SMG4 might be a reference to the first episode of the webseries version, where the Duck cuts a slice of cake filled with a flesh-like material inside. It has not been confirmed if this was intentional or not.
- SAW: The Basement Bathroom is used when Mario and SMG4 are tied up, as well as when they make peace with the DHMIS characters.
