Synopsis
Mario's back to funk on friday night 🕺
Plot
Mommy Mearest grieves for Daddy Dearest, who suffered ALS after the spirit of PaRappa the Rapper was set free from the events of SMG4: If Mario Was In.... Friday Night Funkin. As revenge, Mommy Mearest cursed Mario and his friends to endless Friday Night Funk. Not wanting to be cursed forever, Mario went to the Boyfriend and the Girlfriend for consultation, in which the only way to remove the curse is to beat Mommy Mearest in a rap battle. Arriving at their mansion, Mommy Mearest called her gang, while the Girlfriend called in Mario and co., along with Hal Monitor (who was looking for the bathroom) to a rap battle.
- Mario overpowered Sarvente and Ruvyzvat with the help of Toad.
- Tari defeated Belle (who's only here because Mommy Mearest is paying her good money) in a cover of Always Running.
- Saiko declared Whimpu the winner of Senpai, whilst kicked the Senpai in the groin for attempting to hurt Whimpu.
- Swagmaster, along with Luigi, roasted Pico.
- Hal Monitor shot Tankman in the head.
- Melony stabbed and seemingly killed Tricky, who woke her up and attempted to kill her.
The battles removed the gang's curses on each other. Utterly defeated, Mommy Mearest gave up and lost, but not before Daddy Dearest consoled her, telling her that there are more important things than rap battles before they float to space in search of knowledge of space and time. As they float, a text card revealed that both were shot down by the Royal Mushroom Kingdom Air Force for invading the Mushroom Kingdom's sovereign airspace, implying that they were being an unidentified flying object.

Errors
- Saiko asks if Mommy Mearest is ready to get her butt kicked again, even though the former doesn't appear in the prequel.
- Axol disappears after the cool transition.
- Also, he no longer appears in the rest of the episode and he's replaced by Hal Monitor for the rap battle.
- At 4:30, Mommy Mearest has Boyfriend's voice.
- Sarvente's name is misspelled as "Servante" in the subtitles.
- Tricky, canonically, cannot die.
- For some unknown reason, Whimpu and Melony uses Boyfriend's voice instead of using their own voices.
- At 12:00, Hal can be seen glowing, despite not being cursed by Mommy Mearest.
Trivia
- This episode was made to promote the release of both a Sunset Paradise/Friday Night Funkin' crossover video on GLITCH and two mods based on both Mario and Tari's rap battles.
- Swag's way of going down like "the angel of death" is a parody of a known scene of Super Mario 64 Bloopers: Two Great Friends! where SMG4 goes down and X asks him if he is the angel of death.
- This is the second If Mario was in... episode to be a sequel, the first being SMG4: If Mario Was In... Splatoon 2.
- However, SMG4: If Mario Was In... Splatoon 2 is based on the actual Splatoon 2, while this video is simply a continuation of a game which (currently) doesn't have a sequel. It is similar to SMG4: Stupid Mario Odyssey 2 which isn't based off of a sequel.
- This is Belle Fontiere's first major role since SMG4 Christmas Special 2020.
- This is also her first antagonist role since SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2020.
- This is the first episode where Toad speaks since SMG4: Mario's Mask Of Madness.
- Toad is voiced by AJ DiSpirito according to himself.
- It is implied that Daddy Dearest's mansion is located outside of the Mushroom Kingdom, presumably in Eagleland, as both he and Mommy Mearest were shot down for entering Mushroom Kingdom airspace.
- SMG4 & Bob Bobowski are the only characters that appeared in the original "If Mario Was In... Friday Night Funkin" that didn't appear in the sequel.
- However, SMG4 appears during the opening and ending advertisements. A copy of him also appears as a foreground character alongside Mario during Tari and Belle's rap.
- As of this blooper, every major character from Friday Night Funkin' has appeared in the series.
- Similar to Whitty, Tricky, Sarvente, and Ruvyzvat originate from popular Friday Night Funkin' mods (Vs. Tricky and Mid-Fight Masses, respectively), rather than the game itself.
- Tricky originates from Madness Combat, a Flash animation series created by Matt "Krinkels" Jolly.
- Similar to Whitty, Tricky, Sarvente, and Ruvyzvat originate from popular Friday Night Funkin' mods (Vs. Tricky and Mid-Fight Masses, respectively), rather than the game itself.
- When Saiko kicks Senpai, Spirit is shown leaving his body. This may be a reference to a common misconception that Senpai and Spirit are the same character, which is not the case.
- Although Axol appears at the beginning of the episode with Mario, Tari, Saiko, Melony and Whimpu. And he was also cursed by Mommy Mearest, he no longer appears in the rest of the episode, exactly after the "Cool Transition" scene.
- Mike Geno, the one who made the music for Mid-Fight-Masses, is actually a long time SMG4 fan, proven as his challenge was selected to be the one right before the WOTFI 2018 rap battle.
- At the end of the video Daddy Dearest becomes a parody of the late Stephen Hawking.
- In Tari and Belle's turn, they're singing a Friday Night Funkin' remix version of Always Running, the first opening theme of Meta Runner.
- Even the vocals for the song were played by their own voice actress, Celeste Notley-Smith (Tari's Voice) and Jessica Fallico (Belle's Voice).
- This was released by the SMG4 Team on Gamebanana, which also includes the two Sunset Paradise Remixes.
- After SUNSET PARADISE - EP 2: The Silence of the Yams was released, the FNF remixes of Always Running and Sunset Paradise were released to Spotify and Apple Music.
- Each track name references at least one aspect of the rap battle:
- "Suck mah D" references what Toad says while he is rapping.
- "Running" is an obvious reference to Always Running, the song that Tari and Belle are singing.
- "My queen" is what Whimpu refers to Saiko as, whom he and Senpai are fighting over.
- "Angel of death" is what Swagmaster pretended to be to spook Pico. It fails.
- "Happy" refers to the façade that Hal Monitor and Tankman assume right before their battle started.
- "Wakey Wakey" is what Tricky does to Melony.
- FightingMario54321 came up with the idea for this blooper.[1]
- Hal Monitor says "This isn't the bathroom", which may be a reference to the beginning cutscene in "Mid-Fight Masses", where the Girlfriend tells Sarv that she and the Boyfriend just wanted to use the restroom.
