Synopsis[]
Mario's all alone...
Plot[]
“ |
No one here... to tell Mario what to do! I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT!! |
” | —Mario |
An immensely tired Mario woke up from a hangover to call Luigi to eat his 1-Up Mushrooms, only to realize that he, and everyone else are gone, leaving Mario to be the only person on Earth. However, when he realized that he was the only person on Earth, he could anything he liked, and decided to do everything he wanted, only to quickly become bored. He looked up at a meme on Instagram, only to find out that it is the only Instagram post he could find. To maintain sanity, Mario tried whatever he can to make anything lively, like making TikTok videos or making friends out of mannequins. This failed, and Mario quickly lost his sanity. On a road, the insane plumber encountered Hobo Mario, who ran off, forcing Mario to give chase.
The chase went on until they reached a town in Francisco Fajardo, and Hobo Mario burrowed into the sand. Mario soon followed, ending up in an underground chamber. Mario encountered foul beasts that lurk the chambers. When Mario supposedly escaped one, he met a giant Luigi head, asking why he did it before he gobbled Mario. Mario then found himself in a dark space, and saw a green dot blinking above him, realizing that he found himself in a computer. Trying to communicate with anyone, he was startled as the user of the computer greeted him and acknowledged his situation. As Mario asked the user about the disappearance of his friends, the user revealed that they did not disappear but just left, due to an incident that caused him to end up in his situation: the day before, SMG4 and the others were baking a large pizza for a world record, but before they could complete it, Mario crashed into the kitchen, somehow drunk on milk. He ended up lying down the unfinished pizza, upsetting the others; at first, Mario denied any wrongdoing, but then realized the mistake he had caused and apologized for his actions, promising to be a better friend, and with the user's approval, Mario was sent to the Interface world (a floating island in the sky.), seeing Hobo Mario near the edge of a waterfall.
Meanwhile, in Mushroom City, SMG4 and the gang are about to break a world record by having the largest pizza ever made to be eaten, courtesy of the attendees. Luigi felt bad for leaving Mario out, but the others were adamant that it is for the best. As Bob was lowering the pizza to the ground, he noticed Mario from a building, looking insane, revealing that all the while Mario thought his friends disappearing was in fact that he had been suffering from alcoholic hallucinosis from the day before, causing him to go through what he went. As he followed Hobo Mario who leapt from the imaginary waterfall in the Interface world, he broke away from his hallucination as he fell from the building, crashing down and destroying the large pizza with his rude behavior. Seeing his friends again, but oblivious to their furious faces, Mario became glad and began eating the large pizza's remains once he noticed, only for the angry crowd to riot him afterwards for ruining the opportunity.

Criticisms and Controversies[]

Mario began losing his sanity throughout the course of the video as a result of the gang abandoning him, causing some fans to criticize their actions.
Although it has a high like-to-dislike ratio, this video garnered negative reviews from fans who dislike the gang and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom's treatment of Mario. According to these fans, their isolation of Mario from the rest of the Kingdom was an unfair punishment that was disproportionate compared to other actions that Mario has done. Additionally, they feel that some characters, such as Luigi and Tari, were out of character and would not push Mario away over something like this. Meggy is often given more leniency regarding this as she is apologetic and the only one not upset at Mario for ruining the second world record. Also in one scene, Mario finds warnings shown at him when he admitted that he wanted his friends back. Assuming there's seemingly no man writing these warnings, it would possibly imply that even the fabric of reality itself hates Mario.

The destruction of the pizza was because of the gang's actions that drove Mario insane to the point of falling on the pizza. So they should have just apologized to him instead of attacking him.
These fans are especially critical of the gang's all-out attack on Mario in reaction to him destroying the second, larger pizza, holding the gang themselves responsible for the pizza's destruction since their actions drove Mario's own actions, led him to insanity, and ultimately caused him to destroy the pizza. However, other fans argue that the treatment was justified, as Mario is constantly rude to the gang because of his obnoxious behavior in previous episodes. These fans also claim that it is common in SMG4 videos for some characters to be unfairly treated at times, such as in R64: We're going on a Luigi hunt.
On a less severe note, the initial absence of any characters made many believe that the episode was going to be a continuation of SMG4: Clown Fever, and start a supposed "Clown Arc," as the previous episode ended on a cliffhanger. Not only is everyone seemingly cured from the clown fever, but Depresso is present for the world record pizza. Depresso vowing revenge in the previous episode ultimately amounts to nothing, though he would still go against Mario and SMG4 in SMG4: Mario Screws In A Lightbulb, as well as try to find a new girlfriend in SMG4: How To Train Your Mario and SMG4: All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE.
The episode currently has a 3.9/10 on IMDb, the second-lowest rating of any episode; the lowest rated episode is SMG4: Boys vs Girls.

Trivia[]
- This is the 8th episode overall to be unpopular among fans, with the previous 8 being S̶M̶6̶4̶: `•.¸¸.•´´¯`••. .• ( Tubbie TV ) •. .••`¯´´•.¸¸.•`, SM64 bloopers: The Idea block., SM64: Mario joins the Circus, SMG4: Boys vs Girls, SMG4: Officer Meggy, SMG4: The Resurrection, and SMG4: DO NOT ENTER.
- This episode is the second most hated SMG4 episode, The first was SMG4: Boys vs Girls
- After the blooper was released, fanart was made regarding the episode's ending. This fanart mainly revolves around alternate and extended endings where Mario becomes frustrated with his friends for abandoning him.
- This is the second episode from Season 12 to result in mass fanart being produced, the first being SMG4: The Cursed Tapes.
- On December 22, 2022, MediExcalibur2012 has released a video revealing that Meggy carrying JubJub is a direct callback to SMG4: Meggy's Part-Time Job. Additionally, he also revealed that Meggy is the only one that doesn't attack Mario at the end (it's actually JubJub propelling her towards him). Because Meggy looks upset at JubJub, however, her expression blends in with the others and the intended adlib was lost.
- Hobo Mario appears with a remodeled design, looking less polygonal than his original model from 2007s The Simpsons Game.
- Some of Lizzie Freeman's voice clips for Meggy were reused in this blooper during the scene of the largest pizza.
- In a similar way, SMG4's voice lines do not match with what he is saying, similar to Season 9.
- It is implied that Peach adopted or is in the process of adopting Mario, as there is a document titled "MARIO ADOPTION PAPERS" present in her bedroom.
- SMG3 is the only known character not present, since he is in the Internet Graveyard.
- This is the last episode:
- Before the airing of The Lawsuit Arc. As a result, this is also the last non-arc episode to feature SMG4, Bob, and Fishy Boopkins in their original designs before being redesigned during the arc finale.
- To feature X and FM outside of flashbacks in the Mario Does Things series.
- Mario's naked N64 model features red shorts, possibly to match the Gmod model of Mario in shorts from Super Mario Odyssey.
- This is the first appearances of SMG1 and SMG2 since SMG4: The Pawn Business, as well as their last appearances outside of an arc until SMG4: All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE.
References[]
- The Last Man on Earth : The episode is a reference to this Post-Apocalyptic TV Show starring Will Forte.
- Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends: The episode is very similar to the Season 4 episode, "Squeeze the Day", where both main characters (Mario/Bloo) wake up in the morning to find out that their friends were gone.
- SpongeBob SquarePants: The episode is very similar to the Season 6 episode, "Gone", where both main characters (Mario/SpongeBob) wake up in the morning to find out that everyone in their hometown (Mushroom Kingdom/Bikini Bottom) has disappeared, they end up going crazy about it until they find out at the end of the episode/video that all their friends left to celebrate a popular event (which excludes the Plumber & Sponge). Coincidentally, "Gone" was an unpopular episode among the SpongeBob fanbase similarly to how this episode is unpopular among SMG4 fans.
- The Amazing World of Gumball : The episode is also similar to the Season 3 episode "The Downer", except instead of wishing them gone like Gumball did, Mario is worried about it. But at the end of the TAWOG episode, it was revealed at the end that everyone was actually still there & Gumball was just hallucinating that everyone disappeared.
- Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo: The concept of Mario's friends abandoning him for his actions is similar to Rabbit's "bad future," in which his friends leave him thanks to his controlling attitude.
- South Park: The ending scene is similar to the ending scene from the Season 3 episode "Are You There God? It's Me, Jesus", where everyone is about to attack the main character (Mario/Stan) at the party for ruining the MacGuffin device (pizza/question), except instead of attacking the main character during the credits, they attack him before the credits start, with a "To Be Continued" screen appearing. Additionally, It has one of the scenes where (Mario/Stan) asks (The User/God) about (Why his friends disappeared/How come he hasn't started his period yet) to it, which makes (The User/God) point out that (They just left him/Only girls get periods).
- Pocoyo: The episode is similar to the episode "Where's Pocoyo" Where (Mario/The Narrator) has to find (his friends/Pocoyo) in (Mushroom Kingdom/Pocoyo World). Additionally, unlike "If Mario Was The Last Man On Earth", The Main Character, Pocoyo isn't alone. He's with The Narrator.
- Link: The Faces of Evil: Mario says the sentence from Link while paralyzed.
- Nostalgia Critic / Pointing at Chicken meme: Mario's face while freaked out resembles the one from the guy from series/image.
- Super Mario 64 Personalized (Wario Apparition): The chase after Mario is similar to that sequence.
- Airrack: The largest pizza party is a reference to Airrack's party with the same name when he hit 10M Subscribers on YouTube.
