SMG4: The Grand Festival is the forty-eighth episode of Season 9 and the five hundred and fiftieth overall to be uploaded by SMG4.
This is also the final blooper episode of Season 9, 2019, and the 2010s. It was aired on December 28, 2019.
Mario and friends visit a festival for new years.
The episode starts with the gang standing at the entrance of a new years festival. Everyone is amazed and ready to take it all in. Saiko is initially unimpressed, but becomes excited upon learning that there will be fireworks. Bob attempts to lead the group, but everyone almost immediately splits up.
Mario, Luigi, SMG4, and Bowser come across a duck scooping game. After Luigi shows him how to play, Mario rips off Bowser's shell and proceeds to scoop ducks with it, to Bowser's embarrassment and SMG4's anger. Chaos ensues.
Meggy, Saiko, and Tari are seen hanging out at a mask stand. Meggy puts on a Mario mask and does a Mario impression (somewhat terribly). Saiko, in return, grabs a mask and puts it on. Unfortunately, the mask is Majora's Mask, and starts to possess her. Meggy attempts to warn Tari, but she is absorbed in Duck Pyro doing a dance. Saiko is then turned into a monster, and Meggy screams in terror while being chased around.
Shroomy, Fishy Boopkins, Axol, and Bob come across a shooting gallery game. Axol picks up the gun to start shooting, but Swagmaster suddenly appears and takes the gun back. He reveals that he, along with his "idiot sidekick" Chris, have taken up running this game to make some money for a holiday vacation. Bob, having experience running a carnival, decides to help out. Upon paying the 20 coin fee, the 3 each get a gun as stacks of cans rise up.
Meanwhile, Mario's group come across a string game. Luigi wins a DK plushie, while Bowser ends up getting a headcrab attached to his head. Mario yanks on a line, but ends up pulling down a power pole onto another stand, which throws a plunger at him, which Mario accepts as his prize. SMG4 tries, but ends up getting a Bob Omb that launches them (sans Bowser), to the mask stand. Tari greets them, and SMG4 asks where the other girls are. Mario becomes startled, having found Meggy being chased by the possessed Saiko. Everyone begins screaming. Mario attempts to leap at Saiko, but is pummeled. Bowser suddenly runs into Saiko, immediately knocking her out as Bowser apologizes and runs off (still having the headcrab on his face). Meggy then hugs the returned-to-normal Saiko, who then tries to push Meggy away.
Back at the shooting gallery, Boopkins is up first. He immediately loses all his bullets out of fear of harming something, which is ironic because he ends up shooting Swag with nearly all his bullets. Shroomy goes next, but wastes his ammo on a plush bear, having flashbacks of hunting animals back at Scout Camp. Axol goes last, and begins to shoot the cans no problem. Bob then asks Swag if he rigged the game, to which Swag responds by pressing a button, causing a large wall to appear and block the entire row of cans. Axol proceeds to ricochet his next shot to hit the cans regardless. Swag unhappily gives Axol his prize. Mario, Luigi, SMG4, and Tari come by, and Tari proceeds to take Axol's prize and hug it. Upon hearing the fireworks are to start soon, Mario panics and rushes out to grab food. Bob leaves to go see the fireworks, and Swag and Chris become depressed, but Bob invites them to hang out with them.
The entire gang, including Swag, Chris, and even Duck Pyro, all gather to watch the fireworks. As they stare in awe, they reminisce on all the things that have happened throughout the year, including Meggy's human transformation. Looking forward to the next year, Meggy resolves to win the last Splatfest, and everyone yells happy new years. Bowser then drops dead, having never removed the headcrab stuck on his face.
