Synopsis[]
All Meggy Spletzer wanted was a relaxing break. Instead she found an island filled with potato bandits, cat burglars, dancing supervillains, and one very angry ice cream man, who all want to turn her peaceful vacation into a crime-fighting adventure.
Plot[]
The episode begins in a gloomy ocean setting and Meggy crawls out of a boat wreckage. Meggy then encounters her shadow self and gets into a scuffle with her. After losing, Shadow Meggy remarks that Meggy cannot run from herself and throws her into a void.
The horns sounds on the S.S. Tortle and Meggy awakens from her nightmare. Before arriving to her destination, Meggy watches a commercial for Port Aurora presented by Mayora Bora. In said commercial, Meggy's informed of the upcoming Phoenix Festival commencing in a week. Before the commercial ends, Mayora Bora accidentally makes a remark of something bad happening after dark but doesn't remark what it is. Meggy tries to question that statement but is ignored by the ship's attendant. As Meggy remarks of leaving her troubles behind back at home, Meggy arrives at Port Aurora positive and ready to enjoy herself.
Alongside an assistant crab carrying her luggage, Meggy wonders how to pass the time before doing hotel checkin and that's when Meggy spots an ice cream vendor. Deciding on what ice cream she wants (holding up the line as well), Meggy asks the sketchy ice cream man for her ice cream, only to be taken aback by how expensive the ice creams are. After reluctantly paying the ice cream man 12 tullies, the two are interrupted by an unlikely deputy.
Upon arrival on his unicycle, the deputy arrives to find several problems with the vendor including an oil leakage (from a squid) and a concealed gun. Unable to provide a good reason, the deputy berates Aziz, writes him an infringement ticket and padlocks his vendor until the issues are resolved. Furious, Meggy walks away having lost money to Aziz without ice cream and Auri Bori (the deputy) goes off on his merry way to find other lawbreakers. Still remaining positive, Meggy buys herself a new vacation t-shirt and sets off to enjoy herself.
After a montage of Meggy (mostly) enjoying herself, she ventures towards her hotel to rest with her assistant crab carrying her baggage. Almost satisfied, Meggy feels like she's missing something and that's when she saw an ice cream parlour. In a rush before the parlour closes, Meggy arrives only to realise a gang of spuds has trashed the place. About to confront the Spud Buds, Meggy's assistant crab advises her to stay out of it (to her chagrin).
Suddenly, Auri arrives on his unicycle to check out the commotion. Auri's attempts to uphold the law fail as the Spud Buds resists his infringement tickets and trash his unicycle. Auri tries to take down the Spud Buds with his weapon but his spear gets immediately kicked aside on the street. As Auri gets ganged up on by the Spud Buds, Meggy disobeys her assistant crab's attempts to stay out of the fight and throws Meggy's baggage aside.
As Meggy confronts the Spud Buds, they push her over the edge when Duke throws at her why she came to the parlour in the first place: ice cream. After a brief fight and discovering that potato's have "nothing between the legs", Meggy ends up in a barricade from the incoming fire of ice cream. Auri attempts to join the fight but lands a very pitiful punch against Yam. Kicked out onto the street, Yam confronts Auri with a potato peeler. Having spotted Auri in danger, Meggy grabs a nearby durian and throws it at his a**. Safe and sound, Auri goes to retrieve his dropped spear from earlier.
The fight gets drastic as the Spud Buds bring cherry bombs into the equation and throws some at Meggy. In slow motion, a panicked Meggy gets out of the way and narrowly avoids the explosion onto the streets. 4 against 2, Meggy and Auri are outnumbered outside the parlour. As Auri suggests sacrificing himself to save Meggy, Meggy does some quick thinking and takes Auri's spear. She throws it at a stream of flags nearby a flaming torch and creates a lit barricade of fire between Meggy & Auri and the Spud Buds.
After mocking the Spud Buds, it comes to her utter shock when the Spud Buds spot her suitcase and run away with it. Although beyond frustrated, Auri congratulates her for her fight against the Spud Buds and managing to finally landing a hit with his spear. It comes to Meggy's bewilderment when Auri states that Port Aurora doesn't have a proper sheriff or law enforcement other than himself. With nobody else to help, Meggy disappointedly agrees with letting Auri help her and sets off to find someplace to sleep. A helpful Auri convinces her to sleep at his when he said he had ice cream at his place.
After an ice cream intermission, Meggy's staying at Auri's pops place (with his ashes on a cabinet). Genuinely concerned, Meggy questions Auri for being a deputy despite his incompetent nature but he provides an explanation. There's a sacred tradition to the Aura Boras known as the Phoenix Festival that happens every century when the Phoenix ashes reappear, but there's a problem. There's been an increase in criminal activity threatening not only Port Aurora but the festival itself.
It doesn't help however that the Aura Bora's are wimpy and can't fend for themselves. Because nobody else was competent to uphold the law, Auri took it upon himself to protect the town.
A tired Auri goes to sleep in preparation to scope the area for the Spud Buds at the flea market. After positively stating Meggy as his partner, he falls asleep before Meggy could respond. Pondering to herself, Meggy expects her vacation to go on longer than she'd hoped.
Meanwhile in a secluded location, the Spud Buds converse with a shadowed figure (their boss) and report to him of their exploits but are berated for not killing Auri. The shadowed figure asks Yam to step forward to only then strangle him. The shadowed figure reveals itself to be a large muscular Aura Bora-like character but it turns out the boss speaking is a figure of a person's face telecasting himself on a monitor. The boss tries to motivate Yam and the Spud Buds and threatens to kill them if they don't kill Auri and Meggy.
Kicked out the door, the Spud Buds take Meggy's suitcase and the episode ends with them setting off to wreak more havoc on Port Aurora.

- A few days before the release of the second episode, this one was renamed as the first episode with the title being "PILOT".
