SUNSET PARADISE - EP 3: Reservoir Cats is the third episode of Season 1 of Sunset Paradise and the twenty-ninth video overall to be uploaded on the GLITCH channel.
This episode was aired on June 11, 2021.
Synopsis[]
Meggy meets a world class criminal. Only she's.... shy?
Plot[]
The cat burglar from the previous episode breaks into a museum and steals a painting of a sheriff. Just after knocking a security guard unconscious by making him breathe hallucinogenic gas (which amplifies any self-doubt that you may have), a giant See-and-Say toy in the museum makes a dog sound, causing her to jump (because she's...you know...a cat). This triggers the museum's security system which causes all of the artifacts to attack the intruder. She manages to escape before she's barred in but not without losing her mask and getting it locked behind bars, revealing her identity to be Whisk and that she's insecure without her mask (albeit very deadly). She's forced to leave it behind for it to be found by Meggy the next day.
Meggy and Auri meet the curator of the museum, who informs them about the painting that was just stolen: the painting of Auri Bori's grandfather (Aloysius Bori), the previous sheriff. Auri gets too excited and breaks off a sphinx's nose on accident so he goes to fix it with super glue. Meggy shows the curator the mask and asks if he'd seen it before, which he replies that he has and requests to hold on to it. Auri then accidentally falls on the back of Meggy's hair and gets stuck to her. A second identical curator comes back and comments on how he had never seen Meggy and Auri before, causing the two to realize that the "curator" that they saw before was actually the burglar. They try to stop her, but fail. However, Whisk accidentally left behind a calling card (which was literally a card for calling a hotel), revealing where she stays.
Meanwhile, Whisk returns to her hotel room and gets a call from her mom. The conversation reveals that she goes to community college but she temporarily left so that she could make money at her new "job". She then hears the doorbell, causing her to reluctantly let the person on the other side in. The guy is revealed to be the janitor named Chet, who engages in a friendly conversation with her. Whisk starts to warm up to the janitor but then freaks out when he comments on how she has the painting of Aloysius Bori. She kicks him out of her room but Chet isn't bothered one bit as he's more distracted by "what a lady" she was.
Meggy and Auri then arrive at the front desk where they see Chet as the receptionist. They show him a picture of Whisk taken by a security camera in the museum that shows her robbing it. Realizing that Whisk is a wanted criminal and that she's in danger of being caught, Chet tries to dissuade the two from looking for her but gives in when Auri threatens to file a complaint to corporate. He tells them her room number but not without secretly warning Whisk about her guests.
Meggy and Auri find the room, but they don't see Whisk anywhere. They initially assume that she escaped but then suddenly, they're ambushed and sprayed with Whisk’s hallucinogenic gas, causing them to become immobilized by their worst fears. While the two are stuck in their nightmares, Whisk grabs a laser gun and starts charging it.
Meggy faces Shadow Meggy, who reminds her that she had left her friends behind because she didn't want them to ruin her vacation, on top of the fact that she’s still the same person she was when she left for her vacation. Meanwhile, Auri is having a vision of his late grandfather who tells Auri that he isn't worthy of calling himself sheriff and will never be as successful as he was. Auri admits that he's weak but then says that's why he has Meggy as his supervisor. As he talks about how strong and brave she is, Meggy overhears Auri's words in her own vision. Shadow Meggy tells Meggy that she'll end up pushing Auri away like she did to her friends but then Meggy tells her shadow that she's listening to what Auri has to say. To Shadow Meggy’s shock, Meggy and Auri's visions merge as they collectively agree that they have each other’s back, allowing them to overcome their fears together.
The two wake up just in time to see that Whisk was about to shoot them with her laser gun. They manage to dodge the bullet and teamed up to beat Whisk. In the scuffle, Whisk loses her mask again, causing her to freak out, jump out of the window and manages to escape with her life thanks to her grappling hook. Meggy's happy that she gets her suitcase back, only to realize that it's been looted of all of its contents, meaning that they still needed to catch Whisk. Auri realized that it means that they get to go on another adventure while an annoyed Meggy grabs Whisks laser gun and uses it to sever Auri from her back. The two exit the hotel with Auri carrying the painting of his grandfather with him.
As the two are seen leaving the hotel, Whisk watches the two from a distance when she gets a call from the mysterious voice (via a goony wearing a monitor). He's mad at her that she didn't keep a low profile (because she ran into Auri earlier than expected) and demands that she does so until the Phoenix Festival. He asks why she's still hanging around the hotel to which she responds by saying "nothing” as she looks down at Chet unknowingly dumping her utility belt.. Benedict buys it and ends the call.
