a highly controversial season among the SMG4 fanbase.
Reason: Axol's death in the Genesis Arc, as well as featuring controversial episodes such as SMG4: The Resurrection and SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2021.This must be filled out. If you see this message and you know the controversy source, please replace this message with the link to controversy.
Season 11 is the eleventh season of the SMG4 series, and the second season of the 2020s. This season premiered on January 23, 2021, and concluded on December 25, 2021.
In addition, Luigi, Tari, Fishy Boopkins, Shroomy and Saiko (who was previously a recurring character in the last season) appear in less videos than before, a surprising fact considering their near-perfect inclusion rate in previous seasons to the point of being reduced to minor characters.
Meggy Spletzer took a temporary hiatus from appearing directly on the series, from March 12 with My New Adventure., and ending on July 31 in SMG4: She's Back!. The events of her vacation are shown in the aforementioned Sunset Paradise. She had appeared in flashbacks, phone/discord calls and livestreams, and also cameos in The SMG4 Movie with Auri Bori during her vacation.
During her departure, the SMG4 Gang currently runs a hotel business in the place of her house, called Bob & Breakfast 2 to help Meggy pay off her loans.
SMG1, SMG2, & Axol's eldritch form all became to available to download from the Garry's Mod workshop page on Steam on September 16th, together as the "SMG4 Genesis Arc Model Pack" bundle.[1]
The overarching antagonist of the series, Niles, finally makes his debut as the main antagonist of this season and the Genesis Arc. The arc ended with SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2021 and also marked the death of Axol.
Melony gets a pet axolotl called Axol Jr., named in Axol's honor.
The eleventh season saw major censorship in its episodes, particularly in China where it is unofficially uploaded on bilibili due to the Great Firewall banning YouTube. The episode Into the Dark Web saw heavy censorship to comply with bilibili's Creative Treaty and guidelines from China's Ministry of Public Security. The result shortened the episode's original length from 13 minutes to 8 minutes, as of which the mere mention of the Dark Web was censored, with the episode retitled as Enter The Mystery (进入神秘之处), with the mention of VPNs and gore were cut.
Criticisms and controversies[]
The episode SMG4: The Resurrection was criticized by fans, primarily fans of Desti, who was confirmed by Luke Lerdwichagul himself to be officially retired after SMG4 Movie: Meggy's Destiny. Her fans believed she would be revived rather than the actual subject of the resurrection, Greg The Alien, which led to flame wars and ranting on other social media platforms (most notably on Reddit). Due to this, the staff on Reddit temporary disabled text posts until SMG4: The Melony Felony was released.
In a similar manner to Desti's death in Season 9, Axol's death at the end of SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2021 also proved to be extremely polarizing. While some appreciated the sacrifice he made, others found it unacceptable and poorly-handled, and wanted him revived.
Trivia[]
Prior to the release of SMG4: The Resurrection, it was leaked as it was accidentally listed as unlinked instead of private. It was quickly privated soon after until February 6.
Likely as a result, SMG4: The Resurrection is placed before SMG4: The Intruder... in the official playlist, even though the latter was released first. This could be explained as the former having its release delayed due to being leaked.
the former Anti-Cast members appeared much less than the previous season.
Melony appears to be the primary exception, as she has appeared in several Season 11 episodes.
Tari appears in this season with a main role the least, having played a main role in 36 episodes from her debut episode to Season 10, only playing a main role in seven episodes, despite having a main role in the season's premiere episode.
Princess Daisy returns in this season, making only five appearances as a minor character, appearing less in SMG4's videos as a supporting character in Mario Does Things series, replacing Jeeves and Joe Boopkins.
This season has the most If Mario was in... videos, with seven in total.
This is one of the few seasons to not end with any sort of New Years celebration due to the final episode taking place exactly on Christmas Day.
This season introduced the use of Uberduck.ai to use speech synthesis typically used for characters like Mario and Luigi who use voice clips, by synthesizing their original voice actor's lines and used it for typed dialogue.
This is the first season since Season 8 to release two story arcs in the same year.
This is the first season where SMG4 is the main protagonist, but Mario isn't.
It's also the second season overall where Mario isn't the main protagonist, having been preceded by Season 9.
