The Spud Buds are a gang of potato bandits who work under Benedict. They are major antagonists in Sunset Paradise.

Crimes[]
- Robbery: They have robbed serval banks, places, stores, and many others. They also rob an ice cream place which was later blown up with a bomb.
- Vandalism: They deliberately wrecked the interior of the ice cream shop and later blow it up, and also attempt to blow up the concert hall.
- Intimidation: When Meggy fights off the other bandits, Yam threatens to kill Auri with a potato peeler until Meggy throws a durian at his butt, causing him to scream. They also threaten citizens with guns in a robbery.
- Theft: Yam takes Meggy's luggage after she loses it and makes off with it. Duke later takes the valuable items of many citizens in a concert.
- Assaulting an authority figure: Given that Auri enforces the law of Port Aurora, they can be seen attacking him.
- Attempted murder: In episode 1, Mash tries to shoot Meggy and Yam tries to kill Auri with a potato peeler. In episode 2, Duke attempts to kill Meggy by shooting her.
- Bombing: According to Auri, massive explosions are banned on weekdays, but the Spud Buds cause one at the concert hall anyway.
- Aiding and abetting: They themselves under Benedict have been supporting him in criminal activity including scheming, contributing to the rising crime rate, being assigned to kill Auri to prevent stopping his plans, and being involved in his conspiracy against Port Aurora.
History[]
The gang's members are Yam (the leader), Mash, Russet and Duke. The four of them were all born and grew up together in the same potato patch, so they consider each other family, but they were 'literally dirt poor'. They later fought another quartet, the Asparagus Army, and won due to their teamwork. They also pillaged multiple children's hospitals and had lots of fun doing so.
They are first seen in the series itself in the first episode, SUNSET PARADISE - EP 1: PILOT, where they vandalize an ice cream shop. Auri attempts to serve justice by giving them an infringement ticket, but they knock it away, making him threaten to give them more infringement tickets. They then threaten him and reveal their plan to kill him, easily defeating him when he tries to fight back with his spear. Meggy intervenes to assist Auri, but the Spud Buds threaten her as well and toss an ice cream cone at her. This causes Meggy to become angry and fight back, to their surprise. Despite this, they manage to put up a good fight and even blow the shop up with cherry bombs until Meggy blocks them off by starting a fire. However, they notice that Meggy's suitcase is on their side of the fire and they run off with it.
They report their results to Benedict, but he is unhappy with them, since they didn't kill Auri. After threatening to murder them all if they don't successfully kill Auri, he throws them out for them to actually finish the job, and they take the suitcase with them.
The next day, in SUNSET PARADISE - EP 2: The Silence of the Yams, the Spud Buds rob a building where a concert is taking place and force everyone there to give them their valuable items using guns, then cause an explosion and leave. Meggy and Auri see them as they do so, and after Yam notices them, the group flees through a market. After a chase, the Spud Buds reach an empty building and make decoys of themselves, recording their voices having a conversation on a tape player. This tricks Meggy and Auri into entering the building, where the Spud Buds surround and attack them. However, Meggy throws the tape player at a switch to turn the lights off, and the groups fight each other in the dark. Yam, Mash and Russet escape and flee to their hideout in a garbage dump, while Duke gets cornered by Meggy and Auri and claims to have never stolen anything before the duo sees the instrument he stole from the concert. Meggy and Auri tie him up and interrogate him in the latter's kitchen, and he eventually reveals his love of music and dream to become a musician before he joined the Spud Buds. Meanwhile, the other Spud Buds assume he is dead and mourn him. Duke agrees to help Meggy and Auri defeat his former allies, but when the trios confront each other, the Spud Buds remind Duke of their history together, and he chooses to give up on his dream and side with them. Meggy then finds a vacuum in the nearby garbage and uses it to suck up Yam, Russet and Mash, trapping them inside, while Duke apologizes for his betrayal and allows Auri to cuff him. After Whisk steals all of the Spud Buds' loot, including Meggy's suitcase, Auri imprisons the vacuum and Duke in his house.
In SUNSET PARADISE - EP 4: Cat-sino Royale, they make a small appearance when Auri imprisons Whisk in the same prison that they are in. Duke recognizes Whisk as his colleague and they both assume that their shared boss, Benedict, will be angry with them.
In SUNSET PARADISE - EP 6: Saturday Night Funkin', after Meggy and Auri go to the latter's house in an attempt to escape from the angry mob of citizens, they find that the Spud Buds and Whisk have broken out of prison thanks to Benedict, who finally reveals himself. While Benedict is explaining himself, the Spud Buds distract Auri while Whisk distracts Meggy, so that neither of them can attack Benedict. After Benedict locks up Meggy and Auri, the latter says that he will give the Spud Buds a full pardon on their crimes if they let them out, but they throw a rock at him and laugh instead. They then leave with the other criminals in the Funky Fource's truck. They reappear in SUNSET PARADISE - EP 7: What Comes Next., where they assist Benedict in his various crimes, including his becoming the town sheriff, and attempt to break down the Borealis Lighthouse's barrier for him but fail due to not having pure hearts.
In SUNSET PARADISE - EP 8: Mad Meggy, they are shown to be enforcing Benedict's new laws, trying to break the skull of an Aura Bora not following curfew rules. However, Meggy and Auri manage to defeat them and tie them up upside-down. The duo interrogates them about how to get into the Borealis Lighthouse, but they reveal that they don't know how due to its strong security. The citizens apologize to Meggy and Auri for turning on them in the sixth episode and agree to keep watch over the Spud Buds, with Aziz Yousi taking out a giant popsicle covered in nails that scares the quartet.
The Spud Buds are last seen at the end of Episode 10 where they are shown with injuries from the citizens and chained up. As punishment for their involvement with Benedict's plan, they are forced to clean up the beach along with the Funky Force.

Trivia[]
- In Auri's house, there is an illustration on a blackboard of Auri standing atop the Spud Buds' corpses.
- They lack "potato sacks", meaning that they don't have balls. Therefore, kicking them in the crotch doesn't cause them any pain.
