Sunset Paradise is an Australian computer-animated web series created by Luke and Kevin Lerdwichagul for GLITCH. It was revealed in SMG4: War Of The Fat Italians 2020. The pilot episode of the first season released on March 26, 2021 at 4 PM PT, and nine more episodes are set to be released weekly starting June 4th, 2021.
The series is a spinoff of the SMG4 series which focuses on Meggy Spletzer, who takes a vacation to find the calling she needs, and also fights a variety of antagonists, including her inner demon, Shadow Meggy. Two trailers were released, Sunset Paradise (Official Trailer) and My New Adventure. Unlike Meta Runner, which focuses on Tari as the protagonist but is set in a separate continuity, Sunset Paradise is set within the SMG4 continuity, but remains standalone in nature to put sole focus on Meggy's ongoing character arc.
Meggy Spletzer (VA: Lizzie Freeman) - The main protagonist of the series. An Inkling turned human, originally from Inkopolis who went on a vacation in Port Aurora to figure out what to do next in life while also fighting her shadow counterpart, Shadow Meggy.
Auri Bori (VA: Aimee Smith) - The incompetent, but well-intentioned self-proclaimed deputy of Port Aurora and the deuteragonist of the series.
Antagonists
Shadow Meggy (VA: Lizzie Freeman) - The overarching primary antagonist of the series. A mysterious entity and the dark counterpart of Meggy Spletzer existing in Meggy's subconscious mind, serving as the manifestation of her negative thoughts and emotions.
Mysterious Voice (VA: Edwyn Tiong) - A crime lord and the Spud Buds' and Whisk's mysterious employer, and one of the main antagonists of the series.
Spud Buds - The gang of potato thugs who terrorize Port Aurora and contribute to the crime occurring on the island.
All Meggy Spletzer wanted was a relaxing break. Instead she found an island filled with potato bandits, cat burglars, dancing supervillains, and one very angry ice cream man, who all want to turn her peaceful vacation into a crime-fighting adventure.
Sunset Paradise does take place in the SMG4 universe unlike Meta Runner.
Unlike other SMG4 spinoff series like Guards N' Retards, Sunset Paradise is a fully-fledged animated series rather than a machinima, and the first to feature an entirely original cast (if Meggy's Splatoon origins aren't counted).
The show's style of humor seems to be largely based off of SMG4 (Meggy tries to attack a monkey with a durian, which turns out to be a no sell and causes the monkey to chase Meggy with a knife that seemingly appears out of thin air.)
The crab carrying Meggy's suitcase uses King Crab's model from Meta Runner.
Meggy Spletzer is the second SMG4 girl to have her own show, with the first female being Tari with her show Meta Runner.
Ironically, Sunset Paradise has an anime-like art style for many of the characters when Meggy herself hates anime. She was totally unaware about it, however.
So far the episodes are named after old movies.
Not counting the Lerdwichaguls, two of Meta Runner's voice actors play roles in Sunset Paradise, which are Anthony Sardinha and Jason Marnocha.
