Unowns are Pokémon that appears in Super Pokemans 64: Legendary Pokemon. They are genderless and talk in symbols.
When Mario accidentally knocks down a statue, a Unown statue comes down and tells Mario to turn back or die. Mario refuses to, and the Unown summons more Unowns.
The Hiker tries to use rope to escape, but fails and is attacked. Mario then walks past the Unowns.
They appear as the main antagonistic force of the 2000 anime film Pokémon 3: The Movie - Spell of the Unown: Entei. the different symbols could be letters of the alphabet
